Women Coming Out of the Shadows
An estimated six million women in the U.S. are alcoholic. They are grandmothers, teenagers, housewives, professional women, poor women, rich women, women from every religion and race. Social stigma and intense shame inhibit many of these women and their families from admitting that they have a problem and that they need help.
In this video, ten women share their personal stories of addiction and recovery. Their honest accounts, along with commentary by experts on alcoholism and treatment, provide a disturbing but very effective introduction to the disease and to how it affects women in particular. This documentary will reach other women who are in denial and will show them that they can regain control of their lives. It is also aimed at the families, neighbors and employers whose help may be vital in encouraging women to seek help.
